BMW E60 - 545i Overview

The BMW 545i replaced the former 540i,is powered by a 4.4 liter V-8 engine, and has a starting price of MSRP $55,800.00 The new 545i engine produces an accelerating 325-HP. The new BMW 545i has significantly increased its performance and beefed up its agility, when compared to its predecessor. The 545i exterior follows the same radical design of the e60 family. The interior is beautifully redesigned and the cabin has a significant increase in room. Some of the technological advances in the new 545i include Valvetronic, i-Drive, Active Cruise Control (ACC), and Adaptive Headlights.

BMW i-Drive:

Many of the cabin's features have been borrowed from the BMW e65 7-Series, including a redesigned iDrive. BMW i-Drive technology offers the driver access to a multitude of functions which are displayed on a center mounted color display. The i-Drive control module is located behind the gearbox, always easily within reach. The BMW i-Drive is controlled by push button menu access, and rotating-style menu browsing. i-Drive not only allows you to navigate critical controls, but also climate control, entertainment, and navigation.

BMW 545i - Valvetronic

Valvetronic is an important feature, allowing BMW to squeeze 325-HP out of the 4.4 liter engine. In previous BMW 5-Series cars, one of the main components in air intake to the engine was a throttle-body. Many people wanted larger throttle-bodies and faster butterfly response, so they installed aftermarket components. With the new 545i, BMW has replaced the butterfly with continuous valve lift control. This allows the engine to breathe easier, producing greater HP, especially during low RPM.

BMW 545i - Active Cruise Control (ACC)

Active Cruise Control (ACC) was first noticed on American version Mercedes Benz cars. Bmw has perfected their own version of Active Cruise Control, and offers it as an option on the new 545i. Active cruise control in part works like a traditional cruise control. However, when you approach a car on the road in front of you, the (ACC) system automatically slows the speed of your vehicle to remain at a preset distance. Once the car in front of you changes lanes or speeds up, (ACC) will accelerate to your previous speed.

For the price, the BMW 545i is one of the most aggressive, comfortable, and most technologically enhanced cars on the market!
