BMW M5 - bimmer 5 Series
The BMW M5 changed the definition of the Ultimate
Driving Machine, when it was released in 1985, as a part of the
BMW E28 5-Series family. Anyone who has driven a BMW M5 has felt
the feeling of total domination. From constantly having Japanese
street racer cars try to beet you off the line, to whipping around
the track at 120mph; the BMW M5 is every boys dream.
The BMW M5 delivers more power, handling, and styling every generation
of production. The e39 M5 was undoubtedly one of the fastest four
door production cars in history, and has achieved accolades while
remaining naturally aspired. We anxiously await the release of the
e60 M5 in the states, and are eager to get behind
the wheel of the 500 Hp V-10. It is not often one has exotic car
horsepower, from a daily driver. The BMW M5 has repeatedly proven
itself, to be the ultimate driving machine.
BMW e28 M5 - bimmer 5 Series
The BMW M5 is absolutely a race car disguised as a luxury sedan.
The first BMW M5 to hit American soil was the e28 M5.
There was not much competition for the e28 M5 back in 1985; the
only real competitor was the AMG 300e. The e28 M5 was packing 286
Hp in Europe and 256 Hp in the states. The reason for the 30cHp
loss on American versions of the e28 M5 was simply
due to emission standards and the addition of a catalytic converter
in the states. The only external difference between the M5
and the other e28 5-Series models was the M aerodynamic kit. Other
than slightly more aggressive aerodynamics, the e28 M5 was a sleeper
to most unsuspecting opponents.
BMW e34 M5 - bimmer5 5 Series
The e34 BMW M5 began production in late 1988,
and was a quite stylish replacement for the e28 M5. The e34 was
sold worldwide in three different versions. The 1989 M5
was the only version the United States would see, and packed an
impressive 315 Hp. The 1992 European e34 M5 produced 340 Hp, and
later was available in the touring edition. In 1995 Europe once
again redesigned the e28 M5 and sold it with a
6-speed manual gearbox and suspension upgrades.
BMW e39 M5 - bimmer 5 Series
The e39 BMW M5 was the fastest BMW ever built
until the introduction of the e60 M5. The e39 BMW was the must have
car in the states, and had an endlessly long waiting list. The reason
the e39 M5 had such a high demand in the states, was due to BMW
limiting the production initially to 2000 cars. BMW could only produce
1000 hand built M5 engines a year, thus only 1000 e39 M5’s
were released nationwide. The e39 M5 had a 400 Hp V-8 engine,
individual throttle bodies, and an impressive “dual-dual”
exhaust system. The e39 M5 was the birth of a new generation of
luxury sedans. The BMW e39 M5 reportedly tops off
just above 200-MPH, however, few have ever had the chance, or the
bravery to approach 200-MPH in the e39 M5.
